Orange County Motorcycle Insurance Requirements
If you are operating a motorcycle in Orange County or anywhere in California, the state requires that you carry some type of minimum coverage. This law has been instituted so that everyone has the ability to pay for any injury or damage that they may accidentally cause another party while operating their motorcycle. So in order to drive your motorcycle legally, you must have liability insurance coverage.
As we explained in the previous section, liability coverage protects you in the event that you cause damage to another individual’s vehicle or belongings. At the very least, you policy must be able to provide the following requirements:
- $15,000 in the event of injury or death to another party.
- $30,000 of total coverage if multiple people are injured or killed as the result of a single accident.
- $5,000 in property damage.
Please be sure to keep in mind that minimum liability coverage will not cover yourself, your motorcycle, or any of your own injuries if you were to be involved in an accident. Because of this, we strongly recommend our customers equip themselves with additional protection to ensure that they are covered against a full spectrum of circumstances. In our experience, liability insurance is the law for a good reason, but we often recommend collision coverage and comprehensive coverage to our clients.
If you are unsure what type of coverage is right for you, are if you have questions about what additional coverage is best suited for you, please speak with one of our experienced Security Professional Insurance Service professionals.
We have helped many clients with a wide range of coverage options, and can help you to find the coverage best suited for you needs.
Coverage and Helmet Laws
Some states allow motorcycle operators to ride without helmets as long as they are carrying the minimum state approved coverage, but California is not one of them. If you are operating a motorcycle in California, you and any of your passengers must wear helmets that meet the state approved safety codes at all times. This includes motorcycles, motorized scooters, motorized bicycles, and motor- driven cycles.
